E-Learning is a computer based educational tool or system that enables you to learn anywhere and at any time. However, e-learning is mostly delivered on the internet. In the past, it was delivered using a blend of computer-based method like CD-ROM.

Over the years, technology has advanced so much that e-learning provide learners with the ability to fit learning into their life styles effectively allowing even the busiest person to further a career to gain new qualifications. Before the internet was launched, distance courses were offered to provide students with education on particular skills or subjects.

In 1840, Isaac Pitman taught his students shorthand via correspondence. This form of symbolic writing was designed to improve writing speed and was popular amongst journalist and other individuals with great deal of note taking or writing.

The use of technologies and computers have become an important part of learning and teaching in our society today. E-learning has played a key role in various sectors, education is part of them.

E-Learning have redefined some concepts of teaching that enables the teaching community to perform better and this article, is on how e-learning courses have redefined the teaching technique of the society.

How to use e-Learning to improve Education Technology

Many e-learning tools are available for use in Education sectors today. It provides training and education to large number of students with divers culture and Educational background.

“The debate at its core is a discussion about how to incorporate studies regarding the ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources (Richey 2008), cited in definition and overview with the ongoing and constantly changing software, hardware, and internet application that can be used to improve teaching and learning”.

Educational Technology is the process of integrating technology into education in a positive manner that promotes diverse learning environment and a way for students to learn how to use technology do assignments as well.

In other words, education technology is anything that enhances learning through the utilization of online learning.

Technology, is becoming a necessity in classrooms. Most University technology gives the lecturers opportunity for diversity in their lectures enhancing students learning and displaying of information.

Therefore, the use of different technologies in the classroom aid timely lectures and allow for more attention to be paid to course contents. However, there are weaknesses for using technology as an educational tool. This include; equipment failure and the need for a back-up plan. With all these weaknesses, problems with using technology as learning materials can be overcome by testing equipment beforehand and learning how to use them.

Advantages of e-Learning.

  • With the help of online education, a student can read or watch a lecturer as many times as he or she wants.
  • Students have option to choose what they like, and it also draws students to topics they like and enjoy.
  • Classroom lectures are replaced with interactive, and interesting educational videos.
  • Interaction with students becomes more appropriate when students are sharing their problems with teachers.

Digital revolution and smartphones has triggered a huge change on how we access, discuss and share content. While some want learning at a point of need, many learn in the evening or at weekend and also on the way to or from work. A key advantage to learning online is that it ensures you are synchronized with modern learners, delivering the type of content they want, when they want it and provides an alternative to paper learning. One major disadvantage of educational technology is that students now rely on readymade materials online instead of researching.

Finally, the launch of new technology has changed the face of education in our society.
